Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has received pupils and teachers of Oriire Local Government Area who were recently rescued from captivity, assuring them of government support for their rehabilitation and wellbeing.
The governor received the victims at the Government House in Ibadan, where he commended security agencies for their swift response that led to the rescue operation.
Makinde described the incident as unfortunate, but expressed relief that all the abducted pupils and teachers were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.
He assured the victims and their families that the state government would provide necessary medical, psychological and material support to help them recover from the trauma.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security in schools and rural communities across the state to prevent a recurrence.
He urged parents, community leaders and school authorities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely information.
Makinde also called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders to collaborate with the state in addressing the root causes of insecurity affecting education in the country.
