The Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi, announced the shortlist in a statement on Wednesday.

The committee said the shortlisted candidates passed several stages in the selection process.

These stages included two rounds of screening for advocates, academic pre-qualification, an initial academic review, an independent appeals hearing, and a chambers inspection.

The LPPC explained that publishing the shortlist comes before the final interview stage.

The committee made it clear that being shortlisted does not guarantee a candidate’s success.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted Applicants is not an indication of a successful application,” the LPPC stated.

The committee asked the public to share their views on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the shortlisted candidates.

It said these comments should be sent to the Office of the Secretary, Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja, by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

The LPPC added that any complaint or adverse representation against a candidate must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a superior court of record or a notary public in Nigeria.

The LPPC also said that comments and complaints need to be submitted in 20 copies.

The title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is the highest honour conferred on legal practitioners in the country.

Each year, this title is awarded to lawyers and academics who have demonstrated excellence in legal practice, research, and the development of the law.
