Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has dismissed reports alleging that he is planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rumours followed an invitation by Governor Hyacinth Alia, asking key stakeholders in the state to a dinner at the Government House, Makurdi surfaced on social media.

Reports indicated that the event would serve as a platform to officially welcome Suswam into the APC.

In response, Suswam, in a statement released on Friday by his media aide, Bede Bartholomew, dismissed the speculation as “baseless, aimless, and a lie from the deepest pit of hell.”

But Bartholomew said the dinner had no political undertone, stressing that his principal was merely honouring a courtesy invitation.

“Two days ago, Governor Alia respectfully extended an invitation to Suswam, among other stakeholders, for a state banquet slated for October 10, 2025. It should be noted that as a former governor of the state, Suswam is a stakeholder in the Benue project; thus, his reason for accepting the invitation,” the aide clarified.

Bartholomew said there was no indication in the invitation that the event was a political rally or defection ceremony.

He said, “Moments ago, I received telephone calls from well-meaning Benuelites and leaders, alerting me to trending news on Benue’s social media space purporting that the former governor has defected to the APC. Some even alleged that he will be received by Governor Alia at the Banquet Hall this evening.

“I debunk this unholy rumour with all vehemence, as it doesn’t represent the current interests of Suswam or that of his supporters across the state.”

The statement reassured Suswam’s supporters that he remains firmly committed to the PDP, urging them to disregard the speculation.

“The former governor advises his supporters and well-wishers to disregard this rumour. It is a lie from the deepest pit of hell,” Bartholomew added
