A 40-year-old woman has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy, Abdulrasheed, in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Nafisat Lateef, who is the landlady of the victim’s mother, allegedly forced a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous into the mouth of the toddler.

According to the Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, Nafisat committed the criminal act on February 5, 2026, following a dispute between her and the victim’s mother, Rofiyat, at their residence in Omifon community of the local government.

The police spokesperson disclosed that detectives from Odigbo Police Division swung into action when the 32-year-old mother of the victim rushed to the police station to lodge a complaint over the incident.

Jimoh, who stated that the suspect was promptly arrested with the liquid substance, stressed that she has been making useful confessional statements in custody.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention following continuous vomiting after consuming the substance.

The PPRO stated that the case will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

He said, “According to the report, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 4th February 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly gave the victim, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

“The act was reportedly carried out following a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect, who is the complainant’s landlady.

“Police detectives, during a swift and intelligence-led operation, arrested the suspect. In the course of the investigation, the detectives also recovered the liquid substance.”
