The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to commence rehabilitation works on Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo Local Government Area, LGA, for three weeks.

Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this on Monday, ahead of the commencement scheduled for Friday, August 28 to Friday, September 18, 2026, about three weeks.

Oluwaseun explained that the works will be carried out in two phases; the first phase will cover the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo axis of the bridge, from Friday, August 28, 2026, to Friday, September 11, 2026 while the second phase will cover the bridge inbound Isolo from Ejigbo, running from Saturday, September 12, 2026, to Friday, September 18, 2026.

Consequently, Oke-Afa Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement, urging motorists to ply the alternative routes.

He said during phase one rehabilitation, motorists from Isolo heading toward Ejigbo will be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway from Pako Roundabout, where traffic will move in both directions, before rejoining the main carriageway to continue their journeys at Mobil Filling Station.

Motorists coming from Ejigbo will maintain free movement and share the carriageway with Ejigbo-bound traffic from Mobil Filling Station to Pako Roundabout, after which they will regain full access to the road to reach their destinations.

Osiyemi added that “during phase two rehabilitation, motorists from Ejigbo heading toward Isolo will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station, where traffic will move in both directions, before rejoining the main carriageway to continue their journey at Pako Roundabout.

“Motorists coming from Isolo will maintain free movement and share the carriageway with Isolo-bound traffic from Pako Roundabout to Mobil Filling Station, after which they will regain full access to the road to reach their destinations,” Osiyemi stated.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, he said would be on ground to coordinate vehicular movement and minimize inconveniences.

Similarly, an emergency tow vehicle will be stationed within the axis to provide quick recovery operations for breakdowns throughout the period of the works.

Osiyemi therefore, urged motorists to be patient, “as the partial road closure forms part of the traffic management plan for the rehabilitation works on Oke-Afa Bridge, Isolo LGA, being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos). “The political office holders are principals to the bureaucracy, and a lot of times, the bureaucracy takes directives from them.

“You need a bureaucracy that is not just professional but also has the capacity. The commitment to the system is also driven by his own or her own personal integrity,” he said.

A former Permanent Secretary of the Federation Civil Service Commission, Goke Adeboroye, has cited reasons why the commission failed to detect a fake presidential agency that allegedly penetrated government. According to him, this exposes significant weaknesses in the country’s bureaucratic system.
