The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of the Costain to Alaka section of Eko Bridge effective from Friday, June 4 to Friday, August 13, 2021, for the commencement of emergency repairs by the Federal Government.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the repair became necessary to complete the rehabilitation works earlier embarked upon by the Federal Government at the opposite side of the bridge, hence the need for a notice of diversion of traffic from the section.

He said that during the partial closure, motorists should use alternative routes, noting that traffic from Apongbon to Alaka, Stadium, Inner Surulere or Ikorodu Road will be diverted to access Costain Roundabout to Iponri through Alaka and Funso Williams Avenue.

Similarly, the Commissioner advised motorists coming from Eko bridge to navigate through Costain Roundabout to Abebe Village (Nigerian Breweries Plc), through Eric Moore to Bode Thomas to Adeniran Ogunsanya, to access Shitta Roundabout by Stadium under-bridge to Funso Williams Avenue to Dorman-Long Bridge and Fadeyi-Ikorodu Road.

“Vehicle owners can also gain access to Apongbon through CMS Outer Marina Road to connect Ebute Metta Ikorodu Road to access their destinations. Apongbon through CMS to Outer Marina to Adeniji-Adele, Third Mainland Bridge, Adekunle to Herbert Macaulay Way, Jibowu and Ikorodu Road will also be available”, he added.

While appealing to motorists plying the route to take note of the diversions, the Commissioner urged residents to bear the inconveniences, as the project is aimed at achieving a seamless, safe and efficient transport system that will meet the transportation needs of the larger population.

Dr. Oladeinde also advised road users to comply with directives from the State’s Traffic Management Personnel along the route, stressing that traffic directions and road signals will be made available to minimise the inconveniences that may be experienced during the construction period.
