Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hazmat, has expressed grave sadness over the Epe truck accident which claimed some lives and left several others injured.

Recall that an accident involving a truck ladened with cement that reportedly had a break failure occurred in the Aiyetoro area of Epe Township, in the Epe Local Government Area of the state, during which many people were reported dead while others sustained varied degrees of injuries.

The deputy governor expressed this feeling on Tuesday in a statement through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media, Mr Tunde Alao.

While expressing his sympathy over the incident, the deputy Governor commiserated with the families of the victims and prayed to God Almighty to console them.

Dr. Hazmat also prayed for the repose of the departed and quick recovery for those that were injured, saying that his thoughts were with them all.

“I wish to express my sympathy over a traffic accident that occurred in the Aiyetoro area of Epe Township, in the Epe Local Government area of Lagos State, on Monday, 11th November, 2024.

“The accident, according to reports, involved a truck ladened with cement, which reportedly had a brake failure that resulted in claiming some lives, with quite a number of people sustaining varied degrees of injuries,” he said.

“With a grief heart, I commiserate with the families of the victims and prayed to God Almighty to console them. I also pray for the repose of the departed and quick recovery for those that were injured. It is quite unfortunate that such things happened at this point in time.

“Once again, I am deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of the affected victims. May their families find solace in the love and support surrounding them, and may the pains of this loss be eased by the cherished moments they shared with them while alive. My thoughts are with you all,” he prayed.

The deputy governor, however, seized the opportunity to implore motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before bringing them on the road, declaring that what took place in Epe on the fateful was an avoidable accident.

Besides, he also charged traffic agencies in the state to make sure that drivers obey the traffic rules, including the maintenance of their vehicles, saying that this should be done without necessarily harassing or extorting money from them.

“I am using this opportunity to implore motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before bringing them on the road. This was an avoidable accident.

“Besides, I am also urging our traffic agencies to make sure that drivers obey the traffic rules, including the maintenance of their vehicles. This should be done without necessarily harassing or extorting money from them,” Hamzat said.
