Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate, Mr Bamidele Akingboye.

The directive followed the circulation of a disturbing photograph of Akingboye’s remains on social media, showing visible bruises on his head and prompting questions over the true cause of death

Akingboye was said to have died in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.

However, the viral image has triggered suspicion that foul play may have been involved.

In a statement released, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Oluseyi said a team of detectives, accompanied by the Command’s Crime Scene Investigation vehicle, visited the residence over the weekend where the body was discovered.

He said the area was cordoned off as forensic experts deployed specialized tools and scientific methods to secure evidence and analyse the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Speaking to Channels TV during the visit of the police detectives, the son of the deceased, Samuel Akingboye, said he called for the investigation by the police so as to uncover the mystery surrounding his father’s demise.

‘’I saw him the day before so it is very shocking to see this happen, that is why I opened the case so I know how he d!ed because I wasn’t getting any explanation and its been tough. I just want to do the best by him and know how he d!ed. There has to be an explanation and that explanation is what we are all looking for. ‘’

Akingboye, who flew the flag of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the November 2024 Ondo governorship election, lost to the incumbent, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, APC
