The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arraigned a 55-year-old chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Shamsudeen Oladiti, also known as “Shamelon,” before a High Court in Ikeja over the death of a dispatch motorcycle rider.
Oladiti faces three counts bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy, and attempted murder.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant committed the offences between August 27 and September 17, 2025. It alleged that on September 17, 2025, Oladiti caused the death of Ramon Imam by beating him with fist blows and several strikes to the head and face. The incident reportedly took place on Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
The prosecutor also alleged that on August 27, 2025, the defendant attempted to murder one Samuel Omale by beating him with fist blows, causing severe injuries at the same location.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges
Defence counsel informed the court of a bail application dated April 27, 2026. The prosecution did not object but noted a request for the correctional centre to confirm the defendant’s medical status.
In a short ruling, the judge granted the application and ordered the Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri to confirm Oladiti’s medical status at a Lagos State Government hospital.
The court had earlier rejected the defendant’s bail application based on some errors. The case was adjourned till June 15, 2026, for trial.
