Confirming the incident, Mrs Wuraola Alake of the Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) in a statement released said the crash was caused by a rise in tide.

She said that the mishap took place at 6.50 p.m. when an Ibeshe-bound passenger ferry named T-Ben, which departed Addax Jetty,  had a collision with the submerged shoreline concrete.

She said that the rider rammed into a high-tension pole that was flooded by water which led to the capsize of the boat.

The agency confirmed that two persons, a male and a female died from the accident, adding that 15 others were rescued unhurt.

LASWA said the deceased female was retrieved from the water while a search was on for the male.

“The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being was confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics.

” The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials. The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing,” the agency said
