The Katsina State Government has denied using public funds to sponsor bandits for Hajj pilgrimage calling it a baseless attempt to undermine the state’s ongoing efforts to curb insecurity.
The accusations, which surfaced during a recent television broadcast by Bashir Kurfi, were dismissed by state officials as entirely false and misleading.
Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, in a statement on Wednesday condemned the claims.
He argued that such narratives are politically motivated and designed to distract from the tangible progress currently being made by security agencies in the region.
The commissioner emphasized that these accusations are part of a broader trend of politicizing security issues for personal or political gain. He suggested that such rhetoric may be fueled by individuals frustrated by the administration’s refusal to approve ventures that would divert state resources away from critical development programs.
Challenging the accusers, the government demanded that they produce credible and verifiable evidence to substantiate their claims. Commissioner Mu’azu further warned that the state would not hesitate to utilize legal channels to protect its reputation and hold those spreading defamatory information accountable.
The government concluded by reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and stability in Katsina and urged the public to disregard the allegations. Residents were encouraged to continue supporting the security forces and other stakeholders dedicated to maintaining safety and order throughout the state.
