To make the fight against drug abuse stiffer in Kano, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje assured that, the state government would soon reinvigorate State Task Force Against Drug Abuse.

He made this known when the newly posted State Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Isa Likita Muhammad paid him a courtesy call, during State Executive Council meeting, Wednesday, at Africa House, Government House, Kano.

“Your coming for this courtesy visit during our State Executive Council meeting shows how serious we are in this fight against drug abuse in the state. We are indeed appreciating your work here in Kano,” he commended.

He said, “We will reinvigorate State Task Force Against Drug Abuse, for a safer and healthier Kano. And we will soon look into the completion of our Rehabilitation Centre.”

Governor Ganduje added that, his administration would come up with another strategy of embarking on aggressive public enlightenment against drug abuse in the state.

The new State Commander appreciated the effort of the state government, which resulted into results-oriented fight against the menace.

Maintaining that, “Before now, the state was number 1 on the list of those states with record of drug abuse. But Alhamdulillah the situation has changed now, when it drops to become number 6 on the list, before COVID-19 pandemic. This is commendable.”

While acknowledging that, it was only in Kano that the governor has Special Adviser on Drugs, he further praised the state governor for making a drug test compulsory for potential political appointees in the state.

“We have 7 Area Commands now in Kano state. But I am pleased to inform His Excellency that, we are going to have additional 4 Area Commands. This requires the help of the state government in providing us with office spaces and operational vehicles,” he disclosed.
