The Kano State Executive Council has declared the practice popularly known as “Daba” a deviant and unacceptable social act, directing security agencies and relevant government institutions to intensify enforcement against the practice across the state.

The decision was among key policy resolutions reached during the 40th Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf held on Thursday.

Announcing the outcome of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the government resolved to take decisive measures to curb the growing menace in the interest of public peace and security.

“Council declared the practice popularly known as ‘Daba’ a deviant and unacceptable social act. Consequently, all security agencies and relevant government institutions have been directed to intensify enforcement measures and collaborate in curbing the menace in order to safeguard public peace, security and social order across the state,” Waiya said.

Daba has continued to be one of the major security challenges facing Kano State, with groups of youths from different neighbourhoods frequently engaging in violent clashes and launching attacks against one another.

The violence has resulted in the loss of lives in areas such as Dorayi, Kofar Nassarawa, Kofar Dan’agundi, Kasuwar Rimi, Hotoro, Zage, Kofar Mata, and several other communities.

The Executive Council also approved the transmission of several health-related bills to the Kano State House of Assembly aimed at strengthening healthcare administration and professional training.

Among the proposed legislations are the review of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board Law, the upgrade of the School of Hygiene to the Kano State College of Public Health Sciences, and the conversion of the Schools of Health Technology in Kano and Bebeji into colleges of health sciences and technology.

Council also approved a review of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Bill, 2026.

According to Waiya, the legislative initiatives are designed to strengthen the state’s healthcare system by improving institutional capacity and enhancing the quality of medical training.

“These legislative initiatives are designed to strengthen the legal and institutional framework of the health sector, improve professional training and enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services across Kano State,” he said.
