Kano assembly mourns as two lawmakers die hours apart on Xmas eve

Two members of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, have died within hours of each other on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. 

Ungogo, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, reportedly died at the Assembly complex after a brief illness. He represented Ungogo Constituency.

Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the spokesperson for the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, confirmed Ungogo’s death in a statement. 

“The late Hon. Ungogo d!ed while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement read.

Falgore, condoled with the family of the deceased, the constituents of Ungogo, and fellow lawmakers, describing the loss as irreplaceable.

“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most,” he said.

Hon. Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Constituency, passed away shortly after Ungogo’s death.

The Director-General, Media and Public Relations, Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed Daneji’s death to journalists.

The sudden loss of the two lawmakers within a short interval has thrown the Kano State House of Assembly into mourning, with colleagues, party members and constituents expressing shock and grief over the tragic development
