Residents abducted from Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after six months in captivity.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the development on Wednesday.
In a post on Facebook, Olayinka Fafoluyi, media aide to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced the release and commended the efforts that led to it.
“Alhamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” Fafoluyi wrote.
The state government did not disclose details of how the victims regained their freedom or whether any ransom was paid.
Governor AbdulRazaq has consistently praised the collaboration between state and federal security agencies in tackling insecurity across the state.
Residents of Kaiama and surrounding communities have expressed relief over the return of the abductees, while calling for sustained security operations to prevent a recurrence.
