A suspected terrorist in Keke community along Ibrahim Haske Road, Kaduna Millennium City, reportedly blew himself up with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when security operatives closed in on him and he found it impossible to evade arrest.
Sources on Monday in Kaduna said security operatives had arrived at the suspect’s abode at 1:00 am as the neighbourhood woke up to the sound of gunshots.
The suspect reportedly opened fire on security operatives when he discovered that his house was surrounded.
This led to an exchange of gunfire. After he was overpowered by the superior firepower of security forces, he resorted to the use of explosives to blow himself up.
It was gathered that security operatives ransacked his house and discovered an AK-47 rifle along with two other IEDs that were later defused by the anti-bomb squad.
“The man’s body was mutilated by the explosives, while his wife and children were taken away by DSS officials in their vehicles,” the source said.
A community leader, Malam Samaila, confirmed the incident.
Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Jalige Mohammed, did not respond to text messages sent to him after he also failed to answer the phone calls put across to him.
