Kaduna Electric Confirms Six Persons Died From Power Surge in Zaria

The management of Kaduna Electric on Tuesday, confirmed that six persons were killed after a high voltage caused a power surge last week in Zaria.

The Head of Corporate Communication, Malam Abdulazeez Abdullahi, on Tuesday said contrary to some reports, its investigations revealed that six people died from the incident.

He revealed the names of the victims as; Mrs. Aliya Jibril, Ibrahim Ja’afaru, Murtala Ibrahim, Malam Auwal, Solomon Yusuf and ASP Kokuma Lumba, adding that, all the deceased persons lived on Kagoro Close, Gwargwaje, except ASP Lumba who resided in the Police Barracks.

According to the statement, the company, had reached out to the families of the six victims, just as it has taken measures to avoid reocurrence.

“Investigations so far revealed that six persons lost their lives in the unfortunate electrical incident that occured in Zaria last week,

“In the cause of its investigations, the company’s officials visited Gwargwaje community and met with families of the affected persons on three occasions since the incident to mourn with them and gather relevant information on the incident,” he said.

The statement said it had not received any information of more fatalities since its last visit to the community on Saturday.

He added that it has also gathered detailed information on all those who sustained injuries or lost properties, just as it has been liaising with relevant security authorities and the traditional institution in Zaria to discuss next steps
