Jigawa state Government has urged school children to observe covid 19 measures to prevent themselves from contracting the virus.
The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Yalwa Da’u, made the statement while addressing children at the Nuhu Sunusi Durbar ground, where they mark the celebration of the 2021 children’s day.
According to her, “the coronavirus is still active as against the general perception, hence the need for everyone to take the measures seriously.”
Today marks the Children’s day celebration in Nigeria, and children in Jigawa state northwest Nigeria join their counterparts across the country.
Since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic this is the first time the state is organizing a ceremony in honor of the day.
Children from various schools perform parades in different styles while observing the Covid 19 measures.
Gateway International students were ranked the third position, while Gwaram Girls Secondary School students were ranked the second position as Golden Light Academy students led in the parade presentation.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of women affairs says the government is making effort to increase enrollment among out-of-school children in the state.
She said “ the state government is providing school uniforms, books, and school feeding to ensure that economic reason is not an excuse for children not to enroll in schools.”
As the children celebrate their day, the hope is that they get a happy childhood that would set them up for a better future.
