1,620 Women in Jigawa state have benefited from N81,000,000 cash transfers under the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus NG CARES Program.
The wife of Jigawa state Governor, Hajiya Asma’u Badaru who flagged off the cash transfer in Dutse said other women would benefit from livestock empowerment.
According to her, 1,620 women would receive the sum of N50,000 each, while 17 women from 27 local government areas would benefit from rabbit and its rearing kit, and 11 women each from the 27 local government would benefit from chicken and rearing kit.
“This is part of efforts to ensure that poor and vulnerable households that have been hit by the negative effect of the covid 19 pandemic bounce on back.” Badaru said.
“Thousands of people have been hurt, some even lost their livelihood as a result of the measures put in place to control the spread of the virus.
“Although this was the best thing to do, it has left many families in despair. This is why this empowerment is important at this time.” she added.
The Special Advisor to the Governor on Economic Empowerment Alhaji Abba Mujaddadi called on the women to use the money and other empowerment they received judiciously.
“This is a world bank supported program. And the beneficiaries were drawn from the existing social register in the state.
“They were trained under the empowerment directorate on entrepreneurship skills so that they can be able to build on the business.” Mujaddadi said
He added,
“this is a continuation of what has been started in Kazaure local government and we are expecting to lunch a similar program in Hadejia emirate soon.
” And we will monitor the progress of their business which will qualify some of them for subsequent empowerment.”
