The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has listed five major reasons why thousands of candidates are seeing “Not Admitted” on their Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, portal this admission season

According to JAMB, the “Not Admitted” status simply means no institution has yet recommended or offered a candidate admission through CAPS at that point in time.

The Board urged candidates not to panic, noting that admission is released in batches and updated progressively.

In an advisory released on Sunday, JAMB identified the following as common causes:

1. Mismatch of Data
Discrepancies in bio-data, O’level results, or UTME details across JAMB, WAEC/NECO and institution portals can stall admission. JAMB advised candidates to ensure names, dates of birth and exam numbers are consistent.

2. Wrong or Poor O’level Result
Institutions require specific subject combinations with credit passes, usually at not more than two sittings. Candidates who do not meet the requirement or uploaded the wrong result will not be processed until corrections are made.

3. Low JAMB Score
Every course and institution sets a cut-off mark. Candidates whose UTME score falls below the required mark for their chosen course will not be recommended, regardless of other qualifications.

4. Wrong Subject Combination
Offering subjects that do not align with the intended course can lead to automatic disqualification. Examples cited include Medicine, Law and Engineering, where specific subject requirements must be met.

5. Admission Not Yet Released
JAMB said some institutions are yet to conclude their admission process. Candidates who meet all requirements may still be considered in subsequent batches.

The Board advised candidates to review their data, confirm O’level uploads, check cut-off marks and subject combinations, and continue to monitor CAPS regularly.

JAMB also noted that support is available for candidates facing challenges with change of data such as name, date of birth, email and phone number, printing of original results, and registration for Post-UTME screening.
