The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a parcel containing live ammunition delivered to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Oluwasegun Alebiosu
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, where he also paraded exhibits recovered in recent intelligence-led operations across the state.
According to the police commissioner, the parcel was delivered to Alebiosu’s residence and was received before it was opened and found to contain two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
“There is a case like that which we are presently investigating. When he opened the parcel, he saw two live rounds of ammunition,” Fatai said.
He described the matter as a serious case that is receiving the attention of investigators, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify those behind the delivery and determine their motive.
Fatai said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident.
“Presently, no suspect is in custody. We are still working on it,” he stated.
The police commissioner disclosed that detectives are tracing the dispatch rider who delivered the package as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He also revealed that the complainant had provided investigators with the names of persons he suspected could be linked to the delivery, noting that the information forms part of ongoing investigative leads.
The commissioner assured that the command would carry out a thorough investigation into the matter, stressing that intelligence-driven policing remains central to its operations.
His comments came as the command announced the interception of a truck conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances along the Lekki-Epe axis following intelligence reports. Four suspects were arrested in connection with that operation and are assisting investigators.
Fatai said the police would continue to pursue all leads in both cases to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice
