Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on communities to support the Nigerian Army through the provision of genuine information to enhance security in the state.

Yahaya made the call in Gombe when the GOC 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Ali paid him a courtesy call.

He stated that providing genuine information to security agencies was key to addressing security-related challenges.

“So, locally we need to urge our people, especially those in leadership, to see that whatever will cause commotion and disrupt peaceful coexistence needs to get to relevant authorities.

“I want to assure you that my administration and the people are working to see that the army succeeds in securing the state,” he said.

The governor stressed that without security, “nothing will work well,” noting that the huge farming population of the state needed adequate security to provide food for the country.

On the request for the relocation of the army personnel in the state to their new barrack, Yahaya assured that his administration would galvanize support from relevant stakeholders in that regard.

He added that the relocation of the army to the new barrack would help its officers focus on their jobs for the benefit of the people of the state.

On his part, Maj-Gen Ali commended the state government for supporting the 301 Artillery Regiment in Gombe, noting that the army was appreciative of the support.

Major General Ali, who is also the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), said he was in Gombe for the inauguration of the 3 Division Operations Planning Cadre, 301 Artillery Regiment.

The military officer said the commitment and support of the state government to the army towards ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state was commendable.

He however, requested more support to assist the 301 Artillery Regiment to move into the new barrack, which according to him, would help the officers concentrate on their job.

He also appealed to the people of the state to assist the army and other security agencies with timely intelligence and information.

“Timely information will help us to be proactive and not to be reactive; that will help us to maintain and sustain the peace here,” he said.
