The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday lamented the multi-faceted challenges facing the Nigeria Police and the expectations of Nigerians for the same force, saying that he inherited a suffered, neglected and battered force.
The IGP who appeared before the House of Representatives at the plenary season along with the Service Chiefs on the security situation in the country to kick start the House’s sectoral debate said that despite the terrible environment in which the Nigeria Police Force was operating, the citizens were still expecting them to perform magic.
He, however, expressed optimism that with the assistance of the National Assembly through improved budgetary allocation, the narrative would change for the best.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa who led the other chiefs to the green chamber declared that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies were on top of the security situation in the country and that there was no reason for concern.
The CDS then directed others comprising the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla to brief the lawmakers on the activities of their service.
The House has dissolved to the executive session for further legislative action.
