The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has indicated its readiness to support the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, with biometric verification technology to strengthen the integrity of its examination processes.
This followed a courtesy visit by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, and his management team to the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Prof. Aina said JAMB approached INEC as a sister agency with proven experience in biometric verification. He noted that the Board was seeking to access INEC’s biometric verification machines that may no longer be in active use to enhance its own verification systems.
Receiving the delegation, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, commended JAMB’s role in national development and described it as central to the advancement of Nigerian youths.
Prof. Amupitan directed the Commission’s Director of ICT to conduct a proof-of-concept assessment to determine the availability and suitability of INEC’s equipment for possible use by JAMB.
He cited INEC’s recent conduct of the Anambra, FCT Area Council, Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, and bye-elections, which were commended by observers including the NSA’s Office and the UK High Commission.
Prof. Aina appreciated INEC for the warm reception and pledged further collaboration between both agencies.
