The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has ordered intensified rescue operations and stronger coordination among security agencies to secure the release of worshippers abducted in Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Disu gave the directive on Saturday, August 29, during a visit to Minna to assess the security situation.
A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the IGP assured the Niger State Government that “the safe recovery of the abducted persons and the arrest of the perpetrators remain the focus of ongoing operations.”
He conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, affected communities and families of the victims. He was received at Government House by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, and the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Bello Magaji.
The IGP commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command’s prompt response and situation reports. He also appreciated the state government for providing operational vehicles, repairing Armoured Personnel Carriers and supporting officers’ welfare.
Addressing officers, Disu directed intelligence-led and professionally coordinated operations, with priority on victims’ safety. He ordered deeper collaboration with other security agencies and closer engagement with traditional and religious leaders to improve intelligence gathering.
Force Headquarters, he added, will continue to support the command with logistics, mobility, intelligence, training and operational capacity.
The Deputy Governor commended the visit and reiterated government support for security agencies.
As part of the visit, Disu also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago, CON, to commiserate and strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions.
