Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to Imo State to provide operational direction for ongoing search-and-rescue mission of prospective NYSC members and other passengers abducted along Owerri-Onitsha Road, Umunoha, October 1, 2026.
DIG Operations arrived state with two Commissioners of Police and conducted on-the-spot assessment of situation and ongoing search-and-rescue efforts of Command CP. He also reviewed operational strategies, deployment of personnel as well as operational assets, and provided further directives to strengthen coordinated response.
Assessment was conducted alongside Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso; Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, CP Akpan Anifiok; Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Mobile Force; as well as other Service Commanders and members of Management Team of Imo State Police Command.
Search-and-rescue operation has been further intensified, with additional deployments of tactical teams and operational assets across identified areas, backed by intelligence-led tracking of suspects. Police are working in close coordination with sister security agencies to ensure safe rescue of abducted persons and apprehension of perpetrators.
DIG Nadada assured public that Nigeria Police Force is committed to securing safe rescue of 20 abducted persons and will sustain operation until mission is successfully concluded.
He urged public and media to remain calm and vigilant and encouraged anyone with credible information that could assist operation to promptly contact Police or nearest security formation.
