Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has mourned the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
Idris, who held the traditional title of Jakadan Sokoto, died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 77. He served as Governor of Kogi from 2003 to January 2012.
In a condolence message posted on his X handle, Tambuwal described him as a respected elder statesman, accomplished businessman and political leader who devoted much of his life to serving his people and the country.
He said Idris’ tenure marked an important chapter in Kogi’s political and developmental history and praised his ability to build relationships beyond political, ethnic and regional lines.
Tambuwal said the death is a loss not only to his family and Kogi State but to the wider political family and Nigeria.
He condoled with the Idris family, the Government and people of Kogi State, and prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The Kogi State Government has declared three days of mourning and announced a state burial for the late former governor.
