Veteran television host Frank Edoho has revealed that he earned just over ₦100,000 monthly in his first two years as host of Nigeria’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, all while projecting an image of immense wealth on screen.

Speaking at a seminar, Edoho recounted how he wore expensive suits and maintained a polished appearance despite his modest earnings at the time.

He explained that his financial situation improved significantly after telecommunications giant MTN came on board as a sponsor.

Edoho said he took the bold step of negotiating directly with the production company’s owner.

Although he did not disclose the exact figure he requested, he noted that his boss not only agreed but also offered three months of back pay. He accepted the deal immediately.

Beyond the salary increase, Edoho said greater opportunities followed, including hosting high-profile events and travelling frequently.

His revelation has sparked widespread online discussion, with many Nigerians comparing the purchasing power of ₦100,000 in the mid-2000s, when the show first aired, to present economic realities marked by inflation and currency devaluation.

Edoho hosted the Nigerian version of the global franchise for over 13 years and remains one of the country’s most respected media personalities.
