Some lovers of good governance and political analysts under the banner of Good Governance Nigeria, a Group based in Ondo State have urged the forthcoming government of Asiwaju Bola Almed Tinubu to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the country.
They are of the opinion that Nigeria, which appears to have lost its battle for greatness for years, can be made to become great again, if Asiwaju Tinubu focuses on pro-people programmes, rather than promoting cosmetic policies.
In their various interractions with our reporter on the telephone, the analysts asked Tinubu to initiate, implement and promote policies that would make the Nigeria’s citizens to be proud of the country.
According to them, the President-elect is not unaware of the hardship and pains Nigerians have been undergoing for over a decade and he should therefore shun nepotistic tendecies that will not promote the interests of the majority of Nigerians.
Asiwaju Tinubu won the February 25, 2023 presidential election in which he defeated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). Tinubu will be inaugurated as the president of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.
An Ondo State based businessman, Mr. Rotimi Jacob, who described the February 25 election as free and fair, praised Nigerians for conducting themselves peacefully during the polls. He, however, urged Tinubu to make the nation’s business environment conducive and friendly for the economic advancement of the country
Mr. Jacob particularly advised the President-elect to consider reviewing the closure of the nation’s border by the almost rounding up government of Mumammadu Buhari.
According to him, reviewing the border closure will open the nation’s economic space for robust and competitive business activities.
He further recalled that Nigeria was prosperous in 1980s when the country was productive. According to the businessman, Nigeria was great in the past when almost every household material being used by the citizenry was manufactured locally. He expressed belief in Asiwaju Tinubu’ s capacity to judiciously deploy available resources for the country’s economic development. According to him, “Depoliticisation of the nation’s security also demands genuine attention of AsiwajuTinubu. The security crisis that has thrown Nigeria into a nearly failed state should be looked into.
“Restructuring of the country is also important to encourage healthy competitive activities among the six geo-politucal entities making up Nigeria.”
In his own submission, a political analyst and strong member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Rotimi Ajetomobi, wants the President-elect to shun political distractions that may impair general developments that would usually look convincing and as source of encouragement to the masses.
He said: ” As we are hopeful to begin a new political dispensation with Asiwaju Tinubu, I wish Nigeria and the Nigerians best of luck. I am so confident of his ability to turn things around positively in view of his pedigree, political sagacity, past contributions and capacity” .
“I will advise the President-elect ahead of time to take research seriously in the area of technological advancement, prioritized attention should be given to renewable energy as we augment power sectors to restore normalcy and stability in our economy. By and large, I wish our nation best of luck as we are set to start another democratic experience under Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
A social crusader, Mrs. Omowumi Adeyemi, believes that effective relationship among the three tiers of government is a tonic that strengthens democracy. She therefore asked Tinubu to allow members of the three tiers of government to discharge fully the responsibilities of their respective offices in accordance with the Constitution.
In her words, “Impartial judiciary is necessary for the sustainance of any democratic government. So, the rule of law should be encouraged and promoted by the in-coming government of Tinubu. With the promotion of the rule of law by the government, good governance is assured.”
