A building belonging to Unicem Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State, has collapsed following a devastating landslide triggered by torrential rainfall.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026, according to a Calabar-based pharmacist, Mr. Mekzy, who shared video footage of the collapse on X.

Details on casualties were not immediately available at press time. The heavy downpour that hit parts of Calabar on Thursday caused flooding and soil erosion in several areas, leading to the landslide that brought down the hospital structure.

Emergency responders were seen at the scene as residents gathered to assess the damage.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the extent of the damage or possible evacuation plans for the facility.

The Cross River State Government has in recent months warned residents in flood-prone and hillside areas to take precautionary measures as the rainy season intensifies.
