The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a comprehensive ban on the downloading and distribution of movies via mobile phones across all 44 local government areas in the state.
According to the board, the decision is in response to growing concerns over public morality and the need to preserve Islamic and cultural values in Kano.
The Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, disclosed the directive on Thursday, citing a rise in moral decadence among local youth.
He said the ban followed numerous complaints about business operators allegedly distributing pornographic films and other video materials deemed offensive to Islamic teachings.
Officials linked the decline in societal values directly to the consumption of indecent films and digital media, prompting the policy to protect the state’s cultural identity.
The board warned that the directive will be strictly enforced with zero tolerance for non-compliance.
Hisbah personnel have been mobilized across the state to conduct routine patrols and monitor download hubs.
Any operator caught violating the ban will face prosecution in accordance with the laws of Kano State.
Dr. Aminuddeen urged affected business owners to seek alternative, lawful means of earning a living, stressing that the long-term well-being of the youth remains the priority
