Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has said he is prepared to change the face of health facilities in the state.

Following recent inauguration of the Kaiama Referral hospital, Governor Diri, has directed the Commissioner for Health to ensure completion of all ongoing similar health facilities across the Local Government Areas.

The immediate past government of Restoration kick-started the Referral hospital project in each of the eight LGAs and Governor Diri, has assured he would not abandon any but complete them all.

His words: “The referral hospital was started by the Melford Okilo administration and the previous government continued with the project. That is why I was more determined to complete and commission it. The Commissioner for Health practically relocated to Kaiama for one month to ensure its completion.

The previous administration replicated this referral hospital in all the local government areas. I hereby direct the Commissioner for Health to ensure that all of them are completed and put to use.”

It is good to note that the Governor appointed a dynamic young man and a goal-getter, Dr. Newton Pabara Igwele, as the Commissioner for Health.

Dr. Igwele, is safely driving the health component of the Prosperity Agenda and clearly, the focus of the government is geared towards the people.

The Ibedaowei of Kolokuma clan, King Mozi Onya Agara, had expressed appreciation to Senator Diri for completing the referral hospital, stating that they will no longer have to travel to Yenagoa, the state capital, for medical treatment.

Within one year, this government has made a bold statement not only in the health sector but generally on human and infrastructural development.

What the people owe this government is their continued support to be able to deliver more and meet the aspirations of all Bayelsans.

Both Governor Diri and his Health Commissioner have demonstrated that kinetic energy to bring prosperity to people, particularly those in rural communities. Indeed, this is a government of the people.
