The Gombe State Police Command has arrested one Mubarak Haladu, 21, for the kidnap and murder of his brother’s 7-year-old son, Haruna Bello in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state. 

The spokesperson of the command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 25, 2024, said the suspect abducted Haruna and demanded the sum of N1.5m ransom from his brother, the victim’s father.

According to the PPRO, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Anti-kidnapping unit of the command on October 17 and confessed to the crime.

Unfortunately, the decomposing body of the victim was found in an uncompleted building in Dadin Kowa village. 

“On 10/10/2024 at about 0730hrs one Bello Haladu ‘M’ of Garin Sarki, Yamaltu Deba L.G.A Gombe State came to Dadin Kowa Police station and reported that on 09/10/2024 at about 1325hrs one Mubarak Haladu ‘M’ of Unguwar Demsa L.G.A Adamawa state who is his junior brother called him on phone that he has kidnap his son one Haruma Bello ‘M’ 7yrs old and demanded the sun #1,500,000. One million five hundred thousand naira from him. The case was forwarded to Anti-kidnapping section SCID for discrete investigation,” the statement read. 

“On 17/10/2024 at about 1000hrs the above mentioned suspect was arrested, upon interrogation the suspect admitted to have committed the offence and that he also broke about three shops in different areas and stole about thirty mobile phone of different brands among of which he removed and use one SIM card to called his brother, the victim’s father and demanded for ransom. 

“However, on 18/10/2024 the victim was found dead and decaying in an uncompleted building in Dadin kowa village. The suspect will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”
