Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Monday evening killed two traditional rulers in Ikole and Oye Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.
The monarchs are the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area, Oba Samuel Olatunji and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin.
The monarchs were allegedly ambushed and killed by the arm-wielding attackers between Oke-Ako and Ipao Ekiti, while returning from Ogbe, a neighboring town in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi state.
It was reliably gathered that the vehicle conveying three monarchs was accosted and Oba Ogunsakin and Oba Olatunji were killed while the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba escaped from the scene.
“They were travelling together. The armed herdsmen stopped them and rained bullets on them. They took their personal belongings and dragged their bodies into the bush” an eye witness told newsmen.
He said the attackers were armed Fulani men who have been operating in that area for the past five years.
“They fired many bullets at the Alara but he was lucky. He escaped from the scene and ran away” the source said.
Sources said the monarchs were returning from Ogbe in Kogi state in a vehicle drove by the Alara when the armed men struck.
