Gunmen have killed a police inspector identified as Otor Ejiga, in Benue State.
Ejiga, who was posted to Mega IDP Camp along Gbajimba Road in Makurdi, was shot dead while manning an illegal lone roadblock near the camp.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the assailants reportedly took away the officer’s Type O6 rifle following the attack on Thursday.
The body of the officer was retrieved by a patrol team and deposited at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Sources said that authorities have launched efforts to track the suspects and recover the stolen weapon.
A comprehensive investigation has been ordered, and the supervising officer has been issued a query for alleged lapses in supervision.
