At least one person has been shot dead and another abducted as kidnappers struck in one of Abuja’s highbrow districts, Maitama, on Wednesday night.
The incident occured around Galleria Mall on the popular Gana Street at about 8:46pm.
Witnesses said the victim was shot in the head and killed while trying to rescue a man that was being forced into a black Prado SUV by the suspected kidnappers.
According to a witness, the SUV was parked at Number 44 Gana Street and a man was being forced into it before one of the hangers on at that area noticed and tried to intervene when he was shot.
The suspected kidnappers, it was gathered, eventually left with their victim.
Spokesperson of the FCT police command, DSP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the development, said the police had already launched a manhunt for the assailants.
