Gunmen Attack, Kill Bauchi Poly Chief Engineer

Gunmen have in the early hours of Saturday attacked and killed a senior staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

The deceased Abubakar Muhammad was a Chief Engineer in the Directorate of Physical Planning of the institution.

The incident was announced on the official Facebook page of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

According to the message , the gunmen, whose number is yet to be ascertained, stormed the deceased’s residence located at Birshin Fulani area, in the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis, along Bauchi-Dass road at about 2.30am and murdered him in cold blood.

The message reads: “Inna Lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun. Unknown gunmen killed one of our staff, Chief Engineer, Engr. Abubakar Garba Muhammad (Babangida Birshi) of Directorate of Physical Planning around 2:30am at his resident in Burshin Fulani.”

The statement indicated that his funeral (Jana’iza) prayer as announced by the family will hold this morning in Birshin Fulani Mosque, behind his house praying that “may Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul Jannatil Firdausi.”

The Public Relations Unit of the Polytechnic, also confirmed the incident and described it as “most unfortunate”.

It assured that everything humanly possible will be done to arrest the fleeing gunmen.

Also, another resident of the area whose identity is not yet known, was reportedly shot by the gunmen and is receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident to journalists.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, told journalists in a telephone interview that the number of the gunmen is yet to be ascertained.

Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said that the deceased was shot in the neck by the gunmen and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi where he was confirmed dead.

He said, “yes, I can confirm to you that unknown gunmen attacked Burshin Fulani and killed one man, Abubakar Garba Muhammad of the Federal Polytechnic.

“He was shot on the neck. Our men who rushed to the scene evacuated him to the Teaching Hospital where the medical team on duty certified him dead”.
