Lagos State governor and Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, kicked off his 2nd term campaign alongside his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat

The colourful carnival-like campaign rally was organized by the State Campaign Council at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.

The rally also availed all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) contesting election in the 2023 general elections in the three senatorial districts, 24 Federal House of Representatives seats and 40 State Constituencies to showcase themselves to the electorate.

Sanwo-Olu who succeeded former governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, campaigned in 2019 on the mantra of “ForAGreaterLagos”.

This time around he is campaigning on the mantra of “Greater Lagos is Rising.”

Listing his achievements so far, he said that his administration has shown commitment to rapid infrastructural development in the state, with completed strategic projects such as bridges, roads, ports and many more, thereby renewing the hope of residents.

Sanwo-Olu also said that his administration upgraded two tertiary institutions in the state to degree-awarding schools, as well as rewarded and encouraged excellence, thereby improving human capital development.

According to the governor, the state has also trained 18,000 teachers under the Eko Excel Initiative.

Other achievements he mentioned include completion and inauguration of 16 housing schemes; commissioning of over 62 fire-fighting vehicles with understanding of the state environment; and equipping the firefighters with education and world class gear.

The governor further listed Imota Rice Mill and the record completion of the Lekki Deep Sea Port as his administration’s achievements, adding that they are all proofs that a greater Lagos is indeed rising.

“It has been an interesting three and a half years for us — for Femi (Hamzat – deputy governor), myself and our cabinet, and of course, the state assembly. It has been an interesting and Challenging one at a time where we see global disruption worldwide; where we’ve global economic melt down; where we’ve seen global health issues, but your state , your government continue to remain resolute, remain committed,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“I want to thank you. I want to thank you because the last three year and a half years, we’ve all traverse very difficult terrain but we’ve come out better and stronger.”

He noted that with the exemplary style in which the state managed Covid-19 pandemic and other health emergencies, and launching of a health insurance scheme that is non-discriminatory and truly citizen-focused, his government is well positioned to deliver on the new mantra.

APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi appealed to the electorate to speak with their permanent voter cards PVC and vote for Governor Sanwo-Olu for another term of office.

“I am happy to witness this historic event. Today’s event is a step to further develop our democracy.

“I, therefore, urge you all to speak with your PVCs to give our incumbent governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat another term of office.

“With your votes for Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, you are signing in for more development and a prosperous Lagos state.

“When he came on board, I am happy that he has done more than he promised four years ago and he will continue to do more.”
Ojelabi stated that the APC is a symbol of progress and he appreciated Lagosians for voting the progressive party since 1999. “And I urge us to continue to sustain the APC and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat in power to continue to move the state to a greater height.

” I am therefore standing in front of you, on behalf of all Progressives candidates to appeal for your votes for the APC to continue to serve the people better. Lagosians will enjoy more with Sanwo-Olu for another term.”

Present at the rally were leaders of the apex advisory body in the state, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), chieftains and members of the party from across the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 LCDAs, religious leaders, Arewa community, and other representatives of various ethnic groups in the state, traders’ unions and Nollywood Yoruba movie stars to show their support for the party and it’s candidates.
