Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has inaugurated an 11-man Technical Committee on Nembe oil Spill at Santa Barbara.
He made the inauguration on Wednesday at the 60th State Executive Council meeting, at the Executive Council Chambers, in Government House, Yenagoa.
“Today, we will inaugurate the technical committee on the oil spillage at Santa Barbara in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
That oil spill is unprecedented in the history of oil exploration and exploitation. I challenge anybody to state that an oil spill lasted for one month and beyond, this is the first time in the history of oil and gas across the world that in Bayelsa State, specifically in Nembe, oil Spill gushing out from the Christmas tree directly from the oil well cannot be killed and lasted for one month and above.
As an elected government of the state whose oath is to ensure that the livelihood and properties of Bayelsans are protected at all times.
I therefore, as Governor of Bayelsa State, do hereby Inaugurate you today to commence this job immediately.
