The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has setup a task force to check the hoarding of petroleum products by filling stations across the country.

The followed hoarding of petrol by some marketers in anticipation of scarcity and consequent price hike.

Chairman of IPMAN, Kano zone, Bashir Dan-Mallam, warned that any marketer found culpable of hoarding the product would be dealt with.

He said the task force would work with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to ensure the availability of fuel at filling stations across the country.
Queues have resurfaced at many filling stations across the country, while many others have closed down their activities, causing panic in commuters and drivers.

Motorists resulted to getting fuel at black marketers, which cost N1,000 to N1,500 for a four-litre gallon.

In Tsanyawa, Bichi, Dawakin-Tofa and Gwarzo LGAs of Kano state, reports indicate that some marketers sell petrol at N174 per litre.

“IPMAN will not allow some unscrupulous elements within its fold to inflict hardship on innocent Nigerians,” Dan-Mallam said.

The NNPC had on Monday urged motorists not to panic over fuel scarcity as there are over 1.7 billion litres of petrol in stock.

In a statement by its spokesperson Garba Deen Muhammad, the NNPC said it was unnecessary to entertain any fear of scarcity of petrol throughout the festive season and beyond.
