At least 20 people have died in fatal road crash at Hawan Kibo in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Crash occurred at about 5p.m. Friday, October 2, along Hawan Kibo bend, according to Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
FRSC said preliminary findings indicated brake failure caused vehicle to lose control while descending hill. Rescue officers evacuated injured victims to hospitals, while bodies of those who died were taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital mortuary.
Crash involved four vehicles: Howo Sino truck, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Bummer bus operated by Yankari Express and motorcycle. FRSC said 25 people were involved, comprising 23 males and two females, with five people sustaining injuries while 20 males died.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed directed thorough investigation into crash, particularly reported brake failure and loss of control.
He urged motorists and commercial vehicle operators to prioritise vehicle maintenance, roadworthiness and safe driving, especially on difficult sections of highway.
