Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has passed away.
Arase, 69, was said to have passed away on Sunday at the Cedar Crest Hospital in Abuja, according to the statement released by his son, Solomon Arase Jr.
The statement read, “We announce the passage of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police, who passed away at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Cedercrest Hospital, Abuja, after a short illness.”
Born in 1956 in Benin City, Edo State, Solomon Arase had a distinguished career in law enforcement, rising through the ranks.
Arase, who served as the 18th Inspector-General of Police, was appointed to the position in April 2015 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, serving from 2015 to 2016.
