Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum on Monday flagged off an empowerment programme for 1000 citizens initiated by Senator Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno State.
Zulum at the launch at the government house in Maiduguri, declared Shettima’s empowerment was the largest he had seen, since he (Zulum) became governor in May 2019.
About 1,000 women and youths across Borno Central were provided with start-up kits and N25,00 cash each after weeks of attending extensive skill acquisition programme which was facilitated by a Shettima.
“It is my singular honour and privilege to witness the presentation of kits and cash to 1,000 beneficiaries sponsored by Senator Kashim Shettima. This is so far the largest empowerment program benefited by the people of Borno State. This empowerment if well utilized, will insha’ Allah provide livelihoods to many of those who have benefitted especially our internally displaced persons who are part of the beneficiaries” Zulum said.
The Governor urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the materials provided to them by the Senator representing Borno Central.

Speaking earlier, Senator Kashim Shetima expressed appreciation Governor Zulum for attending the occasion.
Borno’s first lady, Dr Falmata Zulum, state caretaker Chairman of APC, Ali Bukar Dalori were among speakers at the occasion that had in attendance political leaders, and top government officials.
The event, from training to presentation of kits, was coordinated by Mrs Nana Shettima, former first lady and wife of the senator. Mrs Shettima, who was not at the occasion, as she remained at home to ensure some of the beneficiaries received their empowerment under her strict supervision.
