Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri has directed that all primary and secondary schools in the state immediately proceed on six-week flood break.
This is part of measure by government to alleviate the impact of flood and protect students from any adverse effects of the flood.
The flood break is compulsory for both private and public schools.
The Governor has also constituted a task force to recognise high grounds that persons affected by the flood can relocate to while all closed water canals in the state is being opened up to reduce the impact of the flood.
Many coastal and non-coastal parts of the country have been experiencing flooding in the last few weeks.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) over 300 people have been killed by devastating floods across Nigeria in 2022.
