Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Watford in Saturday’s early kick-off saw them break a top-flight record. Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick, while Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both got on the score sheet as Jurgen Klopp’s side went top of the Premier League table with a thumping win.
The away side were completely dominant at Vicarage Road, giving Claudio Ranieri a disastrous start to his time as Watford manager.
Salah set up Mane to open the scoring after nine minutes and Liverpool went into the break 2-0 up after James Milner crossed for an unmarked Firmino to tap in a second.
Firmino gobbled up a simple rebound after Ben Foster parried away an inadvertent effort from Craig Cathcart before Salah stole the show.
The Egyptian jinked past a group of Watford players before putting Cathcart on the floor to curl into the far corner to net another goal of the season contender.
The scoring was not done there, either, with Firmino tapping in Neco Williams’ cross in injury-time to complete his hat-trick and add gloss to the score line.
It was a brilliant performance from Klopp’s side and their form was highlighted by the fact that they have now scored three or more goals in each of their last seven away games in all competitions.
According to Opta, that is a record in English top-flight history.
