Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite says the Super Eagles can begin receiving their match bonuses from today or tomorrow.

Uzoka-Anite made the disclosure on Thursday while providing an update on the payment of match bonus to the national team competing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to her,the key financial processing steps by the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had been completed.

Providing an update on the administrative arrangements the Minister confirmed that all group-stage bonuses have been fully funded and cleared through regulatory procedures.

According to her, a fast-track system has now been introduced to accelerate foreign exchange conversion and ensure the funds are paid in foreign currency, in line with players’ preferences.

She added that the final transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts are “currently in flight,” and should reflect within 24 to 48 hours.

“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025.

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay.

“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow,” Uzoka-Anite.

The Minister also revealed that the government has streamlined payment procedures going forward, promising quicker and more predictable disbursement in line with international best practice.

“Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice.

“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” she said.

Uzoka-Anite expressed confidence that the renewed administrative efficiency will boost morale as the team continues its AFCON campaign.

She concluded with a rallying message: “We move forward with one goal: bringing the trophy home.”

Nigeria’s preparations for the 2025 AFCON quarter-final match against Algeria suffered a setback on Wednesday as players threatened not to travel to Marrakech over unpaid bonuses.

The Super Eagles, currently in Fès after winning all group and Round 16 matches, are demanding payment of their four-match win bonuses before resuming training or travelling for the game.

The players insisted that no further team activities would take place until all entitlements were settled.

Saturday’s AFCON quarter-final match against Algeria will kick off at 5 p.m. Nigeria time at the Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.
