The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Lagos Operations Office, in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI, on Tuesday received 148 Nigerian returnees from Benghazi, Libya.
The returnees arrived at about 7:45pm aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight with registration number 5A-BAE, which landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The evacuation was under the Assisted Voluntary Return, AVR, Programme facilitated by the International Organization for Migration, IOM, in partnership with the Federal Government.
A breakdown showed 131 adults comprising 50 males and 81 females, 8 children, 9 infants, and one male with a medical issue.
Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, carried out biometric registration and documentation on arrival to support record-keeping and reintegration.
In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to safe and dignified return, the returnees received immediate humanitarian assistance including food, potable water, medical screening, ambulance services, luggage handling, counselling and other reintegration support.
