The planned palliative works on the failed sections of the Third Mainland Bridge and scheduled traffic division arrangement for the bridge has been postponed.
The repairs was scheduled to go on for two consecutive Sundays, September 17 and 24, between 7 am to 7 pm on both days.
But Lagos commissioner for transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi in a statement on Saturday said rainfall affected the “preliminaries” of the planned palliative works.
The Transport Commissioner assured that a later date which will be subject to weather conditions will be duly communicated for the palliative works, urging motorists to continue to access the bridge with observance to safety measures.
“Due to the heavy downpour experienced in all parts of the Metropolis today, the Lagos state government has announced the postponement of the planned two Sundays palliative works on the failed sections of the 3rd Mainland Bridge, which was scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 17th and Sunday, 24th September, 2023,” the statement reads.
The Lagos State Government had on Friday, announced palliative works to be carried out by its Public Works Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing on failed sections of the ever-busy Third Mainland Bridge.
Heavy rainfall was recorded in many parts of Lagos from the early hours of Saturday — a development that resulted in flooding in some areas.
