The Federal Government has secured approximately 150 terrorism convictions during the first two days of its latest phase of mass trials.
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), shared the update at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where special proceedings are underway simultaneously across multiple courtrooms.
According to Fagbemi, the current judicial push began with 160 trials on its opening day, resulting in roughly 150 successful convictions. The momentum continued into the following session, which saw approximately 300 cases brought before 10 designated federal judges, with an additional 84 cases expected to wrap up by the end of the day.
The ongoing trials represent the fourth major round of accelerated mass terrorism prosecutions initiated by the current administration. Fagbemi emphasized that the scale and speed of the proceedings are intended to send a clear message that the government will not tolerate terrorism in any form.
The prosecution is being spearheaded by the Office of the Attorney-General, while the defense is led by Aliyu Abubakar, the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council. Prominent jurists handling the cases include Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan.
The fast-tracked legal exercise is slated to run for one week. It follows a similar judicial enforcement drive carried out a couple of months prior, which processed over 500 suspected terrorists in the federal capital.
