Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on the beneficiaries of the Federal Government agricultural intervention in the state to judiciously use the farming inputs towards attaining food security in the state and Nigeria at large.

The governor made the call on Friday when he flagged off the distribution of the farming inputs at the field office of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Gombe.

Governor Inuwa said “Given the fact that the world is still battling with covid-19, the intervention will go a long way in mitigating the hardship the pandemic has unleashed on farmers”, calling on the beneficiaries to maximally utilize the inputs to boost food production in the state.

The governor appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for the support, stressing that “Gombe being an agrarian state, will surely need more of this support.

He added that his administration will continue to collaborate with the ministry to bring more support and development to Gombe State farmers.

In his address, Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development Mustapha Baba Shehuri, said ” The intervention is meant to cushion the effects of covid-19 on farmers”, whom he said the pandemic has greatly affected.

Shehuri said “The support include 15 metric tones of rice seed, 5 thousand gum Arabic seedlings, 2.5 metric tones of groundnuts foundation seeds, 1,500 kilograms of cashew nuts, water pumps, maize threshers, winnowers, irrigation facilities, planters and weeders, herbicides and insecticides among others”.

Appreciating Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his foresight and commitments towards boosting agriculture in the state, the minister said ” The intervention is free of charge”.

The Minister had earlier led his team on a courtesy visit to Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House.
